Community Action's Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program served over 900 residents for tax year 2008. The program helped qualified families access additional financial resources through filing taxes to receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC/EIC).

 According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, in 2005, the EITC lifted 5 million people out of poverty, including 2.6 million children.  Without the EITC, the poverty rate among our nation's children would have been nearly one-fourth higher!
